Zodiac Sign Part 1: Discover Your Astrological Element (FIRE, EARTH, AIR, WATER SIGNS)

Zodiac Sign Associations by Groups

As previous mentioned in previous articles the twelve zodiac signs are based on character archetypes with each zodiac sign designated specific personality characteristics. To make your learning experience of the zodiac signs easier we will begin with learning a broad understanding of the zodiac signs by similarities (associations) and differences between zodiac signs when they are placed in the elements (fire, earth, air and water).

Zodiac Sign Elements (Triplicities)

Each zodiac sign archetype (e.g. Aries) characteristics is expressed through one of the four elements (fire, earth, air and water). The elements are referred to as triplicities because each element contains three signs. Each element demonstrates similar characteristics between the three signs and help students to make associated meanings between the signs from the same element and the differences between each element. We shall now go through each element starting with the fire signs.

Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are energetic, confident, extrovert, assertive, dynamic, enthusiastic, inspirational and enjoy taking risks. Fire element energy seeks to lead passionately, confidently and independently but each sign leads in a different way. Aries leads by taking decisive action, Leo leads in a dramatic and regal way and Sagittarius leads by creating a strong vision adventurously. Negative expression of the fire element can lead Aries, Leo and Sagittarius being selfish, impatient, reckless, wild, aggressive, domineering and demanding.

Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are practical, cautious, realistic, patient, thorough, reliable, down to earth and traditional. Earth element energy seeks stability, security and materialism. Taurus ponders and works slowly and persistently towards a goal; Virgo organises, analyses and executes details of a plan. Capricorn creates a plan and cautiously works hard to achieve a successful outcome. Negative expression of the earth element can lead Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn to lack vision and imagination. They can be excessively cautious, conventional, narrow-minded, hoarding, resistant to change and new ideas, which can serious impede their progress to achieve their goals.

Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are theoretical, intellectual, idealistic, communicators, mentally sharp, perceptive, friendly, detached and sociable. Air energy seeks mental stimulation through all forms of mental interaction, learning, sharing ideas, networking and all forms of communication. Gemini is naturally curious, versatile and has intellectual dexterity. Libra seeks harmonious communication through all forms of partnerships and Aquarius will seek out a large network of friends and are excellent collaborators as they see the value of the collective contribution. Negative expression of the air element can lead to them being detached, lack sensitivity and empathy, impractical, over-think, argumentative and inconsistent.

Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are compassionate, emotional, empathetic, nurturing, sensitive, imaginative, intuitive and intense. Water element energy operates on an unconscious level triggering powerful negative and positive emotions, enabling water signs to help others through catharise, counselling and energy healing. Cancer is tenacious and seek to nurture and protect others close to them. Scorpio are intense emotionally, deep and focused. Pisces sensory capabilities are highly tuned, producing intuitive connections with people and their environment. Negative expression of the water element can lead to emotional barriers, feelings of insecurity, timidity, oversensitive, withdrawn, dependant on others, vindictive, moody and takes things personally.

In the next article The Zodiac Signs Part 2: Qualities you will learn about the different zodiac sign groups (Qualities) that have something in common but are not from the same element (fire, earth air or water).
